The Book Hipster

The ramblings of things that make me…um, well…me.

Book Review: THE UNINVITED GUEST by Troy Aaron Ratliff

Happy Thursday, Hipsters!

I know, I skipped a few weeks here. Sorry about that…I was sick and then sidetracked and this morning I write a book review for a book and decided I’ll drop another old school review on you (don’t worry, you’ll get to see the one I wrote…eventually). This was from last July…the first short story by Troy Aaron Ratliff that I had ever read…and was completely blown away!

I don’t think you need much more to preface this, I think…so…

Talk about a cover not giving away the story...wow! I honestly had no clue what I was getting into when I cracked this bad boy open on my tablet.

THE UNINVITED GUEST by Troy Aaron Ratliff

Weddings can be many things…romantic, happy, sad, exciting, cheerful, boring…and there are usually lots of stories that can be told after the magical day. Heck, I still have stories from when I got married almost 10 years ago! They still feel as if they just happened. However, they are nothing compared to the wedding story in this book. *wink*

‘The Uninvited Guest’ is just that…a story told from the point of view of a guest, Harlan…an uninvited guest. Although, he wasn’t the only one uninvited to this wedding, but I’ll let him tell you about that one.

Troy Aaron Ratliff manages to convey in this short book what some authors take three or four times as many pages to tell. I was sucked right in from the beginning and could see it as a movie in my mind playing away. The happy day…the music, the photos, the smiles, the pure bliss of the happy couple surrounded by applause…and…the blood. Oops, I think I said too much.

Grabbed this on a recommendation from a friend and did not regret it. It was just what I was looking for. A definite departure from the other books I’d been reading lately. Not that those were bad. I needed a reprieve for a day. And this gave me just that!

You will not want to miss this wedding story…I promise! I know I’ll never look at weddings quite the same way again and I’ll always be looking for the exit.
