The Book Hipster

The ramblings of things that make me…um, well…me.

The Random 5…Peter Dawes Edition

Bonjour! Welcome to a brand spanking new episode of “The Random 5…”, a spot in which I sit down with writers (or people I deem awesome enough to interview) and ask them five random questions.

Today, the spectacularly amazing Peter Dawes!

No funny quote here, folks…my brain is…I’m sorry, what were you saying…I got distracted. 😉

I met Peter on the Twitter ( @peterdawes ) through a mutual friend you’ve all heard about a million and one times by now (everyone say it together) Steven Luna (@JoeVampireBlog) *giggle*.  Peter had written a book EYES OF THE SEER that Luna thought I’d really enjoy, so of course, I checked it out and read it. Loved it! And as it turns out, I really like Peter aside from his author-ness too! We’ve managed to bond over everything including coffee

Ha ha ha…get it…blood…coffee…Vampire Flynn…ha ha ha!!! *looks around for her coffee cup*

foreign accents (which we’ve affectionately termed #AccentPorn on Twitter)

British…or Scottish…or French…or Italian…or…

parenthood

2 of 4 kidlets…Lady A and Lady K…the cuteness…it burns!!! (not pictured, 2 other older kidlets). BTW, my kidlet totally wants that Hello, Kitty! t-shirt.

Eddie Izzard

Your argument is invalid. That is all.

and my Fake BBC Boyfriend Benedict Cumberbatch.

Why hello Mr. Cumberbatch…we meet again. Oh, and this isn’t the only hottie Peter and I agree on. 😉

It really was just a random introduction that turned into more. Peter is someone I really enjoy talking to on a regular basis. We’ve even had conversations in French, which is fun!

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again…I love Googling images…mmmmm…french toast!

Also, in my awesomely smart ways, I realized Peter Dawes is not who you think he is…he isn’t really Peter Dawes at all!!!!!!! That’s right…Peter Dawes is just a pen name…an alter ego…an…um…fake persona…who he really is, well, only he really knows. With good reasons…the nastiness of the real world can sometimes be a scary place and for that, Peter Dawes exists. He has assured me that when we talk, he is really himself and that he doesn’t lie to me and that if he feels the time is right, will allow me to see the real person behind the pen. If it happens…great! If not, I’m enjoying things the way they are and wouldn’t change anything. 😉

On top of EYES OF THE SEER (which I’ve featured in a “Books you should get…” post), Peter has released a 2nd book in THE VAMPIRE FLYNN SERIES…REBIRTH OF THE SEER! Now, I’ll be honest, I still haven’t read it yet (I know, I know…bad Book Hipster!!!), but I do own it and I WILL read it! I’ve even let another Twitter friend borrow it because I had gotten her interested in the first book, so I figured I’d let her read the 2nd one right away. I’m so nice! *looks around innocently* AND if I’m not mistaken (let’s be honest here…I’m never wrong…ha ha ha!!!) 3rd book in the series FATE OF THE SEER is being worked on as we speak!!! Wanna see the cover???

Ooooooooh…nice!

If you’d like to learn MORE about Peter, you can find him on his Personal Website , Book Website , Twitter , Facebook , LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest and Goodreads. To check out his books, EYES OF THE SEER, you can go to either Amazon.com or BarnesAndNoble.com and REBIRTH OF THE SEER on Amazon.com.

And now *drumroll*…The Random 5…Peter Dawes Edition

————————————————————————————————————————–

1 -Your persona is shrouded in mystery and I won’t make you reveal anything here…promise…but if you wanted your readers (or future readers) to know the real you in ten words or less, what would they be?

I am tempted to quote Edgar Allan Poe: “I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.” 😉 But I suppose a better summary might be found in haiku form:

*passionate artist
suitcase full of skeletons
the pen is my soul*

One of my favorite haikus! And I think this graphic makes it even better!

Oh wait…I think this one is more our style, huh? Peter and I commiserate regularly on Twitter about how tired we are all the time. *raises coffee mug*

2 -Favorite guilty pleasure TV show, movie or both? (and yes, you have to admit it! *wink*)

Guilty pleasure movie would be Rocky Horror Picture Show. I will break out into “Sweet Transvestite” so readily when provoked, it should be an embarrassment.

*”I see you shiver with antici………………… pation.”*

I’ll admit, I’m not a huge RHPS fan (hold on to your toast!), but I do love the music from it. Oh, and Tim Curry will ALWAYS creep me out. *shiver*

Guilty pleasure television show, though? Mystery Science Theater 3000. I have watched each episode roughly a dozen times over, and some of them more. I know all of the villains from each season and who played each robot during them. And there are movies I will not watch without the corresponding Rifftrax. (The Twilight saga being a few of them. *winks*)

Book Hipster Note: If you want to know what he’s talking about, click the link and watch the sample (I did and it is hilarious!) —–> Twilight Rifftrax

3 – If you had to listen to one song every day for the rest of your life (and I mean, absolutely no other songs…not even background music in movies!) what song would it be and why?

For the rest of my life? Am tempted to say “Heat of the Moment” by Asia, but only Supernatural fans would get the humor in that. *bobs head* (“Yesterday was Tuesday, right? But today is Tuesday, too!”)

I have no idea what that means…all I know is that Jensen Ackles used to be Eric Brady on Days of Our Lives.

The actual answer would be “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode. Hands down my favorite song. Hell, give me the DM discography on the proverbial deserted island with the five books one is permitted to bring in such scenarios and I might be content. (Especially when I figured out how to make rum.)

Not only is it a bottle of rum for your island adventure, but an octopus too! Have fun, kid! Send me a postcard! 😉

4 – When Peter Dawes was little what did he want to be when he grew up?

I had to quiz my fictional self to get an answer to this question. Anyone who has read *Eyes of the Seer* knows Peter set out to be a doctor after the death of his parents (Book Hipster Note: Yes, I really did know this, ok!) , but I have never bothered to ask him what his thirteen year old dreams encompassed beforehand. Well, we had a chat (yes, I speak to the voices in my head and they answer *deranged smile*) and I think he might have been leaning toward something like a farm veterinarian. He had a kind heart and a gentle spirit and I think working with animals would have suited him, since he was already used to that on his parents’ farm.

Moo

As for the real me? I have wanted to be a writer since I was a pre-teen. I was pulled aside by my teachers in the fifth grade when the Catholic schools of the area (I was raised Catholic) were holding a writing competition and forced to submit a piece to it. I have no idea what they saw in me, but they were right. I won first place among all the fifth-eighth grade students in the area. I think the only other aspiration I held for any amount of time other than author was lawyer. My grandfather, however, nearly slapped me upside the head when I told him that. “A lawyer? What the hell do you want to do that for? You’re a writer. Be a journalist or something.”

Really? I thought all old people loved Matlock? He’s a lawyer, right?

5 – Cake or Death?

Death! No… Cake? Err… *points* Le singe est sur la branche! *runs away*

Book Hipster Note: I’m laughing so hard right now I’m almost in tears…this is why I get along with Mr. Dawes so well!

————————————————————————

———————————————————————————————————————————————-

You didn’t choose death like Peter did on that last question, did you? Ha! 😉

I hope you’ve learned a little bit more about the amazing Peter Dawes and go check him out in all the forums! He really is a nice person whom I hope to meet in person some day just so we can go do Karaoke and sing Copa Cabana. Ok…not JUST for the Karaoke!

Hipsters, that is all for now…stay tuned, I’ve got a few more posts (including a couple more author interviews and my own writing…poetry!!!) up my sleeves in the next month. Don’t forget to tell your friends to check me out too! (and if you haven’t checked it out yet I’m over on Facebook on the new The Book Hipster Facebook Page!)

Man…cake sounds good right now…wonder if there is any left…
